Gauchos Complete Day One in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Junior Heren Alanis set a UCSB school record in the women's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:47.78 at day one of the Las Vegas Invitational.  Alanis finished the preliminaries with a time of 4:57.95, which placed her in the B group of the finals held in the evening. Alanis improved on her preliminary time by a full ten seconds and shaved off four seconds from her career best.

Senior captain Sophia Yamauchi got off to a fast start in the 200 yard individual medley coming in first with a time of 2:01.70. Later in the day, placed in group A, Yamauchi swam a 201.90.

In the women's 200 yard freestyle relay final, the team of Hope Curran, Jaime Dang, Madison Tedesco, and Reid Whaley finished with a time of 1:38.92.

The men found some success later in the day where Andrew Barmann (4:33.80), Clayton Young (4:33.92) and Randy Aukhus (4:36.03) swam the three best times in group C of the 500 yard freestyle.  In the 200 yard freestyle relay, anchored by Chris Dotson, Chase Lemley, Lucas Norman, and Alex Campbell came in 4th place (1:21.56).

The Gauchos look to continue to find success on Friday beginning with the preliminaries at 9 a.m.
