ROLLING HILLS, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team arrived at the Jack Kramer Collegiate tournament looking to make some noise, but were silenced on day two after Josh Williams, the last Gaucho standing, was defeated by number two seed Sean Hill (BYU) 6-4, 6-1. Overall, the team finished 3-5 in singles play and 0-3 in doubles.
Led by senior co-captain Alex Dominguez, the team failed to advance past the round of 32 for singles as well as the round of 16 for doubles. Despite the end result, there were some instances of play among the Gauchos that should inspire confidence in the team moving forward. Dominguez and Rotheram started things off on a high note in the round of 64 singles, with Dominguez earning a straight set win against Adil Khan 6-3, 6-2.
Rotheram's match against BYU's Kobe Tran was clocked at three hours and 40 minutes, and Joey escaped 6-7, 7-6, 7-6. The stamina and focus required to overcome the inevitable onset of fatigue indicates that Rotheram has, at least partially, implemented the mental practices that he previously spoke on before the UCSB Classic weeks ago. Josh Williams, the freshman from Rye, N.Y displayed some of those same traits in his opening match.
After a disappointing, yet competitive singles run in the UCSB Classic, Williams described his play as being "the worst tennis I have played in a while." To come out and dominate in his first match since then should be a milestone for the young player, as he handled Kevin Orellana (Glendale) in two sets, 6-0, 6-2.

The final ITA major tournament, the 2019 Oracle/ITA National Fall Championship hosted By Newport Beach Tennis Club & The Tennis Club at Newport Beach Country Club starts November 6-10, 2019. ITA Southwest regional champion and Co-Captain Joseph Guillin will receive an invitation to compete alongside the best 64 collegiate players the nation has to offer.
All other Gauchos will compete at the SoCal Intercollegiate at University of Southern California on November 7th.
