SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — UC Santa Barbara senior Casey McGarry was named the Off the Block National Setter of the Week on Monday morning, after an incredible performance in the 2020 UCSB Asics Invitational.
McGarry led the Gauchos to a perfect 3-0 start on opening weekend taking all three matches in sweeping fashion behind a potent .391 team attack percentage. The Manhattan Beach, Calif. native posted 102 assists in the tourney and saw a .576 success rate.
McGarry was the face of consistency for UCSB to kick off the 2020 season posting 33 assists or more in each of the team's three matches for a line of 11.33 assists per set.
The Gauchos coasted past Concordia Irvine in the season opener Thursday night, a match that saw the senior setter lead his team to a .370 attack percentage. Santa Barbara concluded the tournament Saturday night with its best performance of the weekend, a sweep of Benedictine Mesa with a .351 attack percentage thanks to McGarry's season-high 35 assists.
The 4th ranked Gauchos will look to keep it rolling this weekend when the team welcomes Purdue Fort Wayne and Ball State to Robertson Gym.
