SAN JOSE, Calif. – Five different members of the UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team scored twice as the fifth-ranked Gauchos improved to 3-1 in Golden Coast Conference play with a 13-9 victory over San Jose State at the SRAC Pool on Saturday afternoon.
The Gauchos (19-5) led 2-1 after the first period and 5-1 following the second thanks to a pair of Adam Lott goals and contributions from sophomore attacker Sam Nangle, redshirt sophomore attacker Leo Yuno, and sophomore driver Ryan Brosnan.
San Jose State would go on a 7-3 run throughout the rest of the third quarter and into the fourth to close the Gauchos' advantage to 10-8.
Santa Barbara fought off the Spartan comeback with three unanswered goals from Yuno, sophomore driver Nathan Puentes, and Gvozdanovic, extending the lead to 13-8 with 1:20 left in the match.
The Spartans' Finn Pardon would find another goal for the hosts, but it was too little, too late as UCSB saw out the remaining time on the clock for their third win in league play.
Lott, Nangle, Gvozdanovic, Puentes, and Yuno each had two goals in the game.
UCSB will remain on the road for their next match, traveling to Malibu to take on Pepperdine Saturday at noon. As always, a link to live stats will be available on the men's water polo schedule page.
The Gauchos are unbeaten in their three games against the Waves so far this season.
