HONOLULU, HAWAII – Senior forward Shaelan Murison piled-up her second hat trick of the season and the third of her career and Jessica Wright added another goal as UC Santa Barbara disposed of the University of Hawaii on Sunday evening, 4-1.
The Gauchos (7-4-5 overall, 3-1-2 Big West) got after the Rainbow Wahiné early. Murison scored her 14th goal of the season at the 8:21 mark when she received a pass at the 18 yard box, dribbled in alone and clobbered a shot past UH goalkeeper Alexis Mata.
Murison made it 2-0 when she took a pass from Lauren Hess, maneuvered around several players and shoved a shot past Mata to give UCSB a 2-0 advantage at the 27:26 mark.
Kayla Ryan scored on a penalty kick in the 51st, halving the Gaucho lead to 2-1, forcing UCSB to continue exterting its offensive efforts.
"Obviously earning three points on this long road trip to Hawaii we're really happy about the results," said head coach Paul Stumpf. "Our team played great so it's not only a good performance but a great win."
Jessica Wright gave Santa Barbara a 3-1 lead in the 79th minute when she gathered a pass from Murison, dribbled past six defenders and blasted a shot beyond the diving effort of Mata.
The Gauchos' final goal gave Murison her third career hat trick and her second of the season. The Santa Clara, Calif., native took a loose ball and drove past the defense and put it past Mata to give UCSB the 4-1 victory.
Santa Barbara's Murison had a banner week. In helping UCSB to a win and a tie, she tallied four goals and one assist, giving herself 16 goals and five assists for 37 points on the year.
The Gauchos will host UC Riverside on Friday, Nov. 1 in a 7:00 p.m. match at Harder Stadium. They will also host UC Irvine at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3 and that contest will be the program's Senior Day and the five seniors on the team will be recognized prior to the game.
