PALOS VERDES, Calif.- Following a noble day one for UC Santa Barbara women's tennis at the Jack Kramer Invitational, both duos pairs opened up doubles competition with undefeated play in day two.
A different story in singles play, Sentenac and Lagarde were the sole two Gauchos alive following a gritty day one. After Lagarde knocked off Tournament No. 1 Ashley Chang just a day prior, the sophomore matched up against Arianna Capogrosso who represents University of San Francisco.
In a thrilling three-set match, Lagarde was outlasted by Capogrosso 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 as the Quebec native was ultimately bounced from singles play.
Sentenac's unlucky draw also saw her singles run come to an end. In another three-set grudge match, tournament No. 5 Baylor's Jessica Hinojosa Gomez defeated Sentenac 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 as the junior was the last of the four competing Gauchos alive in the singles bracket.
During consolation play, Valero and Khatamova were impressive in a pair of singles wins. Facing off against UCLA's Taylor Johnson, Valero took out the Bruin with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph before Khatamova ended the day with a 6-3, 6-0 sweep over UCR's Sara Khattab.
