HOUSTON, Tex. – In its final game of the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational, UCSB (1-4) fell to Boston College (3-0) 6-2 despite matching the Eagles 5-5 in hits. Senior left fielder Kristen Clark and sophomore second baseman Sierra Altmeyer provided the Gauchos' only runs on the day, but it wasn't enough to overcome three home runs from the Eagles.

Boston College kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the first with their first two home runs of the day from junior Chloe Sharabba and senior Tatitana Cortez, making it 2-0. In the top of the second, Altmeyer was able to get the Gauchos on the board, making it to home base as sophomore Whitney Pemberton was caught stealing at second.

Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Boston College would add four more runs to its lead. After senior Taylor Coroneos rounded the bases to make it 3-1, junior Jordan Chimento hit a three-run home run down the left field line, putting the Eagles up 6-1.

Neither team would score again until the top of the sixth, when Clark was able to dash from third to home on a wild pitch, cutting Boston College's lead to the eventual final score of 6-2.

Freshman Felisha Noriega (0-2) and sophomore Veronika Gulvin split time on the mound for the Gauchos, but it was Gulvin who shined with a season-high five strikeouts. Gulvin also held the Eagles without a hit or run in over three innings pitched.

Altmeyer went 2-2 at the plate and had the Gauchos' only walk of the day. Pemberton, Clark and junior center fielder Jessica Johnston all finished 1-3.

UCSB will be on the road again next week when it travels north for the Stanford Nike Invitational.
