Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Closing out its penultimate home series of 2019 on Sunday morning at Campus Diamond, the UC Santa Barbara softball team was defeated by CSUN 6-3.
The Gauchos now own a record of 8-38 overall and 2-13 in Big West play. The Matadors improve to 24-24 overall, 8-7 in conference.
Following a scoreless first inning, CSUN's offense would get on the board in three straight innings. The Matadors had at least two hits in each of the first four innings, scoring once in the second and twice in the third and fourth.
After being held without a hit into the fifth inning, the Gauchos would start to get hot. Maci Fines ended the no hitter with a triple to right field. Melanie Menor's single to right field immediately after brought Fines home to make it 5-1. Tyler Goldstein then doubled down the left field line, bringing Menor to third. Menor then made it 5-2 on a sacrifice fly by Kayla Krantz.
Against two outs, junior Genesis Ramirez nearly sent one over the center field wall. It ended up becoming an RBI double as Goldstein scored to cut the deficit to 5-3.
CSUN tacked on one more run in the top of the sixth to make it 6-3. UCSB put up two more hits in the bottom of the inning, but wasn't able to further cut into the lead.
The Gauchos ended the game with seven hits to CSUN's 12. Menor and Fines led the way by both going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Next weekend, UCSB closes out its 2019 home schedule with another Saturday-Sunday series against UC Riverside.
