Pacific, Ohio State Defeat UCSB on Day Two of Fresno State Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FRESNO, Calif. – On the second day of the Fresno State Invitational, the UC Santa Barbara softball team lost both of its games, falling 8-2 to Pacific and 5-1 to Ohio State on Friday afternoon at Margie Wright Diamond.

Pacific 8, UCSB 2

Despite multi-hit performances from both senior first baseman Devan Sperry and sophomore catcher Ally Nodohara, the Gauchos fell to Pacific in the opening matchup of the tournament's second day.

Pacific's Caitlyn Sung scored the first runs of the game by singling in Talli Shepherd and Madison Kahwaty to put the Tigers ahead 2-0 in the bottom half of the first inning.

Senior third baseman Kayla Krantz sent a double to left field, with junior second baseman Maci Fines coming across the plate to cut the lead to 2-1 in the next inning.

Pacific scored six runs over the next three innings, including a trio of RBI singles in the fifth, to lead 8-1 heading into the sixth.

Junior left fielder Sammy Fabian brought in freshman Sam Denehy with a bases-loaded single, but the Gauchos didn't manage to get anything else out of that situation and Pacific claimed the victory.

Ohio State 5, UCSB 1

Sophomore center fielder Tyler Goldstein delivered the team's lone score in the bottom of the second inning as UCSB dropped its third game of the competition to Ohio State.

The Buckeyes' Mariah Rodriguez hit a two-run double to left field to get things going in the top of the second before Goldstein halved the lead by singling in Fines.

Two innings later, Ohio State's Carley Gaskill's solo homer extended the lead to 3-1.

The Big Ten outfit tacked on two more in the sixth, thanks to a Taylor Pack double and a base hit from Rodriguez.

Two more games are on tap for the Gauchos tomorrow, as they play the UIC Flames at 9 a.m. before getting a chance to avenge the latter of today's two games against Ohio State at 11:30 a.m. Live stats for both games are available on UCSBGauchos.com.
