Gauchos Ends Long Beach State Series with Six-Inning Non-Conference Loss, 11-3

Box Score

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara softball team fell to Long Beach State in six innings in the final game of the two teams' series this weekend, 11-3.

Long Beach opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, when Alyssa Gonzalez's RBI triple and Suzy Brookshire's RBI single got a pair of runs on the board.

The Beach doubled their lead in the following inning, with a Justine Briones home run and a Naomi Hernandez sac fly.

UCSB cut the deficit to two runs in the bottom of the second inning after freshman Lauren Lewis scored on a passed ball and junior second baseman Maci Fines scored on a bases-loaded error.

However, the visitors managed to score six runs over the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead to 10-2.

Fines extended the game for the Gauchos in the bottom of the sixth with a single that scored sophomore catcher Teah Thies, but Long Beach State completed the run-rule victory in the sixth with a Hernandez RBI single.

The Gauchos continue Big West play next weekend at league leaders Cal State Fullerton. Live stream and live stat links for the Gauchos' four-game series against the Titans will be posted on UCSBGauchos.com early in the week.
