UCSB Downed by No. 1 Oklahoma in Season Opener

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara softball team opened its 2022 season against No. 1 Oklahoma on Thursday at Campus Diamond, falling to the defending national champions in five innings by a final score of 14-0.

The Sooners opened things with a nine-run first inning. However, the Gauchos held them scoreless with just one hit in the second.

UCSB's defense enjoyed its best inning of the day in the third, not giving up a single hit or walk.

In the fourth inning, sophomore pitcher Camryn Snyder struck out 2021 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Jocelyn Alo. It was one of two strikeouts on the day for Snyder.

Junior pitcher Alyssa Molina entered late in the fourth inning. She gave up just two hits against the six batters she faced and also got Alo to strikeout swinging.

Tomorrow, the Gauchos will be back in action for the Campus Diamond Kickoff, the first of four home tournaments this season. UCSB opens the day against North Dakota State at 11:30 a.m. and will face Utah State at 2:00 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
