UCSB Run-Rules Saint Mary's in Non-Conference Matchup

Box Score

MORAGA, Calif. – The Gauchos picked up their eighth non-conference win of the season Wednesday afternoon after pummeling Saint Mary's 12-2.

On the Stat Sheet
Teah Thies went 2-for-4 at the plate, including an RBI single and a lead-off homer over the right field wall to give her three on the season.
Korie Thomas also had a multi-hit game, picking up two at the plate to collect three RBIs along with a run of her own.
Maci Fines had a 3 RBI game along with a run and her ninth double of the year to tie her for fifth place in the conference. Fines is now one hit short of breaking her career-high 47.
Tyler Goldstein was the third Gaucho to have a multi-hit game, making it her sixth of the season.
Ilona Sullivan (1-3) was the pitcher of record, tallying her first win of the season, allowing one run on three hits in 5.0 innings pitched.
• UCSB outhit SMC 10-2 and struck out two.

How It Happened
• Saint Mary's would score first in the first inning after a walk and a hit by pitch would place two runners on base. The Gaels' Alex Casas singled to starting pitcher Lexy Mills as she collected an RBI.
• Both teams had blanks in the second inning, but a solo home run by Saint Mary's came in the bottom of the third, bringing the score to 2-0.
• The Gaels' lead wouldn't last for long as Santa Barbara had its best offensive inning in the fourth. A hit from Thomas, a Fines double, and four Gaels' errors allowed the Gauchos to collect six runs.
•UCSB hung up three more in the top of the fifth, starting off with Teah Thies who crushed a 3-2 ball over the right field wall. The next four Gauchos were able to reach safely as Lucy Mogan and Stewart came around to score, improving their lead to 9-2.
• UCSB collected three more runs on four hits in the top of the sixth, including a two-RBI single from Thomas that plated Thies and Elicia Acosta - run-ruling the Gaels to end the game at 12-2.

Next Up
The Gauchos will take on UC Davis at La Rue Field this weekend in a three-game series starting Friday at 3pm.
