Box Score DAVIS, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara softball team opened its three-game series against UC Davis with a 3-2 win on Friday afternoon.
On the Stat Sheet
• Teah Thies collected two hits in as many trips, starting off with an RBI single to put the Gauchos on the board.
• Tyler Goldstein tallied one at the plate today and is now on a six-game hit-streak - one shy of matching her season high.
• The remaining three hits came from first baseman Rayna Cohen, right fielder Ally Nodohara, and pinch hitter Lucy Mogan.
• Earning the win was Lexy Mills (3-11) who pitched her fifth full game of the season. She recorded a 1.00 ERA, facing 30 batters - walking five and striking out one.
How It Happened
• As they have in 18 of their 44 games this season, the Gauchos got on the board first with an RBI single from Thies after an Ashley Donaldson walk and a single down the left field line from Cohen put Donaldson in scoring position.
• The Aggies responded with a solo homer to tie the game going into the second.
• A Thies walk and a two-out single from Goldstein put two Gauchos on base just before an Aggie error allowed Korie Thomas to reach first and Thies to score the lead run.
• With Chloe Stewart now at bat and Goldstein at third, Thomas made a beautiful play as she went to steal second and got caught in a pickle between first and second base. Thomas was able to distract the Aggies long enough for Goldstein to come across the plate as she landed safely at second, improving the Gaucho lead to 3-1.
• UCSB's defense stranded three Aggies in the following three innings, but Davis was able to add another run in the sixth to make the score 3-2.
• Davis wasn't able to score another run in the seventh as the Gauchos took the first game of the series.
