Orlando Johnson Announcement

Johnson Returns To Thunderdome As Broadcaster

UC Santa Barbara Men's Basketball alumnus Orlando Johnson will join the ESPN+ broadcast.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – A familiar face will join the ESPN+ broadcast this season for UC Santa Barbara Men's Basketball games. The program's all-time leading scorer Orlando Johnson will be returning to The Thunderdome, joining the broadcast alongside legendary coach Gerry Pimm and the voice of the Gauchos, Gerry Fall.

"I'm super excited to get back to a place I called home for so many years," Johnson said. "I'm looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and re-introducing myself to Gaucho family this time as a part of the broadcasting team."

Johnson had a legendary career as a Gaucho, scoring 1,825 points during his time as a Gaucho, averaging 19.6 points per game. He also added numerous accolades to his name, earning Lou Henson All-American honors, All-Big West First Team honors, and NABC All-District distinction.  After his time with the Gauchos, he was drafted to the NBA where he played for three seasons. During that time, he played for four different teams including the Pacers, Kings, Suns and Pelicans. Not only that, but Johnson also played in various leagues overseas including Russia, the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Spain, Australia and South America.

"It's a special moment to connect our rich Gaucho basketball history with Coach Pimm and Orlando with current team and community," said Director of Athletics Kelly Barsky. "Orlando will be able to bring a unique voice from the player perspective and we're beyond excited he's returning home to the Thunderdome."

Fans can catch Johnson on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. as UC Santa Barbara Men's Basketball kicks off the season against Portland State University. The broadcast will be streamed through ESPN+.
