FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Feb. 17, 2023) – The UC Santa Barbara Women's Indoor Track and Field team made the trip to Flagstaff, Arizona to compete in the NAU Tune Up for the final regular season indoor meet of the season. By the end of competition, the Gauchos had many performances to be proud of.
In the jumps, the Gauchos swept the triple jump with freshman Kennedy Johnson taking home the gold while Mariana Lanz was right behind her, hitting marks of 11.97 and 11.95 meters, respectively. Along with that, Johnson and Emma Barthel grabbed third and fourth in the long jump while Katie Meade and Shay Hawkes finished in third and fourth in the high jump.
Another first-place performance at this meet was the women's 4x400-meter relay team. The team of Paige Damron, Mariana Lanz, Abigail Monti and Madeleine Conte finished on top with a time of 3:51.55. The success on the track didn't stop there. Chika Nwachukwu, Jessica Swalve and Conte all finished in the top eight in the 60-meter hurdles with Nwachukwu earning fourth while Swalve and Conte grabbed seventh. Nwachukwu even moved up in the rankings after just making the final. Rounding out the performances on the track was Lanz, who earned a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash.
As mentioned above, this rounds out the regular season meets for the Gauchos' indoor season. The team will kick off the outdoor season on Friday, March 3, as they head to the Long Beach Opener hosted by Long Beach State University.
