SAN DIEGO, Calif. (March 26, 2023) – After losing game one on a walk-off single, Malaya Johnson, and the Gaucho defense shutout the Tritons in game two of the doubleheader to earn a split on the day. 

GAME 1: GAUCHOS 3, TRITONS 4
The Gauchos jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after an RBI triple by Daryn Siegel brought in the first run of the game. In the top of the fourth Ashley Donaldson continued her hot streak, hitting a solo home run to extend the UCSB lead to 2-0. 

For the first four innings of play Camryn Snyder kept the Triton offense stagnant allowing just three hits. Unfortunately, the Tritons would get to her in the fifth as they scored three and took their first lead of the game. 

The Gauchos were unable to respond in the sixth but tied the game at three after Donaldson delivered again with an RBI-single to left center. With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh UC San Diego came up in the clutch as they walked off the Gauchos 4-3 in the first game of the doubleheader. 

GAME 2: GAUCHOS 5, TRITONS 0
A complete game shutout from Malaya Johnson got UCSB back in the win column and earned a split on the day for the Gauchos. Johnson allowed just six hits over her seven innings of work while striking out two hitters. 

The UC Santa Barbara offense again scored first on another Daryn Siegel RBI-single in the top of the first. The Gauchos scratched across another run in the third as Alexa Sams drove in Jazzy Santos. UCSB took advantage of two Triton errors to score the rest of their runs winning the game 5-0.

UC Santa Barbara will wrap up their three-game set with UC San Diego tomorrow, Monday, March 27. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. (noon).
