Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. (April 21, 2023) - The UC Santa Barbara softball team (23-14, 10-6 Big West) fell in the opening game of a three-game series to Cal State Fullerton (25-16, 12-4 Big West). They gave up two home runs and committed two errors that proved costly in the final score of 7-1.
The Gauchos and Titans were held scoreless in the first inning. Camryn Snyder worked out of a jam to keep the game tied early on. In the second inning, Fullerton would take the lead. A one-out solo home run pushed the Titans ahead 1-0.
The Gauchos held the Titans scoreless in the third and started to create some momentum on defense. Unable to apply some pressure on offense the Gauchos went down in order in the fourth. In the bottom of the inning, the Titans pushed two across to extend their lead to 3-0. A solo home run and an RBI double brought in the two runs.
After the Titans plated one more in the fifth, UC Santa Barbara responded and got on the board in the sixth. Alexa Sams doubled to right center field, bringing home Ashley Donaldson. The Gauchos were unable to keep the inning going plating just a single run in the inning.
The Titans took advantage of two errors in the sixth to extend their lead to 7-1. Daryn Siegel led the seventh inning off with a double, giving the Gauchos some late momentum. UC Santa Barbara was unable to produce anything out of it and fell in the opening game 7-1.

UC Santa Barbara will have a quick turnaround as they wrap up their series with Cal State Fullerton tomorrow, Saturday, April 22. The Gauchos and Titans will play a doubleheader with the first game set to begin at 2 p.m.
