BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (April 6, 2023) – The UC Santa Barbara Softball team (19-11, 6-3 Big West) travels to Bakersfield, Calif. Friday and Saturday to take on Cal State Bakersfield (6-26, 1-8 Big West). The Gauchos are 17-7 since 2008 including a stretch where UCSB had won 11 straight games against CSUB from 2010-2016.
UC Santa Barbara comes into the series tied for second in The Big West standings after sweeping Cal Poly last weekend. Madelyn McNally (.422) and Ashley Donaldson (.400) rank first and second respectively in batting average in The Big West. The duo also ranks second and third in on-base percentage. The Gauchos collectively rank first in hits (253), triples (22), and on-base percentage (.399) in The Big West.
The UCSB pitching staff currently holds a sub-three earned run average of 2.85 ERA. Malaya Johnson currently holds a 0.71 ERA during conference play in two starts, with three appearances overall. Camryn Snyder has recorded three complete games and one save during the nine Big West games the Gauchos have played.
UCSB and Cal State Bakersfield will play a single game on Friday, April 7 with the first pitch at 12 p.m. (noon). The teams will then play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 8 with the first game starting at 12 p.m. (noon). All games are available to watch on ESPN+.
