UCSB Prepped to Host 2023 Challenge Cup

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (April 6, 2023) – UC Santa Barbara Track and Field teams are geared up and ready to host the 2023 Challenge Cup this Friday, April 7. UCSB will host Long Beach State, UC Irvine, and Cal State Fullerton.

After an impressive meet a week ago the Gauchos are ready to show their talents to the local fans and supporters. Amanda Spear comes off a second-place finish in the discus, while fellow throwers Jared Freeman and Chase Tarr both placed fifth in hammer and javelin respectively.

Along with the throwers, pole vaulters Melodie Quiroz hit a PR with a mark of 3.92, while Eitan Goore came out of his event last week in top place and looks to build upon that momentum.

Brendan Fong is coming off a third-place finish in the 400-meter recording a time of 48.48. Tyler Holl, Ethan Godsey, and Abigail Monti each earned a PR in their respective events during the Stanford Invitational and look to improve this week at home.

Field events will start at 12 p.m. with the women's hammer and weigh-ins starting at 10 a.m. Track events will start at 3 p.m. with the women's 3000-meter steeplechase. To see the full meet schedule, click here.
