Offense Comes Alive as Gauchos Sweep Bakersfield

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Saturday, April 8) - After breaking through for three runs in the seventh in yesterday's game, UC Santa Barbara carried that momentum over to today and posted 17 runs in two games to finish off a sweeping of Cal State Bakersfield.

GAME ONE: GAUCHOS 7, ROADRUNNERS 6
A back-and-forth game saw UC Santa Barbara prevail late in the game to stay undefeated in the month of April.

The Gauchos opened the scoring in the first inning as they plated two to take an early lead. In the third, Lucy Mogan hit a sac fly to bring in another run and extend the Gauchos' lead to 3-0. Bakersfield quickly responded scoring three in their half of the third to tie the game at three a piece.

The Gauchos regained the lead after Ashley Donaldson tripled and a sac fly by Alexa Sams brought in two more runs for UC Santa Barbara. In the bottom half of the fourth, the Roadrunners tied the game up again with a two-run home run.

The Gauchos did not let the runs affect them as they came back and scored two runs to take a 7-5 lead. Lucy Mogan doubled in Korie Thomas and Bella Fuentes brought in Mogan for the two Gaucho runs in the inning.

Bakersfield scratched one across in the sixth to make it a one-run game, but Camryn Snyder shut them down the rest of the day to hold the slim lead and earn another victory for UC Santa Barbara softball.

GAME TWO: GAUCHOS 10, ROADRUNNERS 6
A slow start in game two turned into an offensive clinic for the Gauchos as they exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning to take complete control of the game.

The Roadrunners got out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on two hits and taking advantage of one UC Santa Barbara error. From there it became all UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos tied the game up in the third with a Donaldson ground out, a Sams single, and a Hannah Damore single.

After being held scoreless in the fourth UC Santa Barbara scored seven runs on six hits and took advantage of two Bakersfield errors. Four of the six hits in the inning went for extra bases as the Gauchos took complete control.

The Roadrunners put up a run in the sixth and two in the seventh, but it would not be enough as UC Santa Barbara won their seventh consecutive game and continue to stay unbeaten in April.
