Gauchos Head to Long Beach State For Pivotal Big West Series

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Softball team heads to the Long Beach State Softball Complex as they play LBSU for a single game Friday, April 12 and a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13. The Gauchos are coming off an offensive outburst outsourcing Cal State Bakersfield 29-19 en route to a series win over the Roadrunners.

LAST TIME OUT
After falling two weeks ago to Cal Poly, the Gauchos picked up their third Big West series win against Cal State Bakersfield. UC Santa Barbara run-ruled the 'Runners in game one before CSUB run-ruled the Gauchos in game two. In the rubber match the Gauchos dominated from start to finish to pick up their second run-rule victory of the weekend.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE GAUCHOS
Jazzy Santos had an impressive week against Cal State Bakersfield helping her to be named The Big West Player of the Week. She slashed .778/.833/1.222 scored five times and drove in five runs as well.

The Gauchos continue to show out with four other gauchos hitting above .500 on the weekend. Elicia Acosta hit .750, Madelyn McNally and Emily Carr hit .600 and Alana Snow hit .500. Emily Carr also drove in five runs, recorded one extra-base hit and scored two extra times against Cal State Bakersfield last weekend.

SCOUTING THE BEACH
Long Beach State Softball is coming off a series win against UC San Diego as they prepare to play the Gauchos. The Beach currently sit 14-24 overall and 9-3 in Big West play.

Beach Softball is headlined by Makayla Medellin. Her batting average of .326, slugging percentage of .511 and 21 runs lead LBSU. Jocylyn Vidal's seventh-inning grand slam helped their victory in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader as the Beach got a series win at UC San Diego.

In the circle, the Beach are led by Sophia Fernandez. The southpaw has thrown 102.1 of LBSU's 254.0 total innings. Over her 100+ innings of work, she has struck out 49 batters while posting a 3.69 ERA with an 8-10 record.

FOLLOW ALONG
The Gauchos and Beach will play a doubleheader on Friday, April 12 with the first pitch set for 3:30 p.m. The series concludes with a single game on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. Only the second game of the doubleheader will be streamed through ESPN+, but live stats and an audio only broadcast will be available to follow and listen to for all games.
