Gauchos Drop Series Finale 7-2 to Beach

LONG BEACH, Calif. -The UC Santa Barbara Softball team dropped the final game of the series against Long Beach State Saturday afternoon. The Beach scored six runs across the first three innings and never looked back as they defeated the Gauchos by a 7-2 final.

FROM HEAD COACH JO EVANS
On this weekends performance: "This was a disappointing weekend for us. We were really looking forward to coming down and playing Long Beach," said Evans. "Our first two games we had chances to win and we competed well. Overall, yesterday could have been a whole different story, we easily could have been 2-0 headed into today."

On the Gauchos pitching: "We need to pitch it better, we walked too many hitters this weekend. We throw some good innings and then walk someone on four straight pitches, that can't happen. We have to be more consistent on the mound moving forward."

HOW IT HAPPENED
After putting up six runs over the first three innings, the Gauchos found themselves in a 6-0 hole. In the fourth inning UC Santa Barba cut into the deficit scoring twice on a two-run double off the bat of Alexa Sams. With no outs and a runner on second the Gauchos looked to keep cutting into the Beaches lead. Unfortunately Santa Barbara left Sams stranded at second. The next inning the Gauchos would get two runners on again but could not bring them around to score.

UC Santa Barbara was unable to get any closer as Long Beach State added one run to their tally on the way to a 7-2 final.

GAME NOTES
Ainsley Waddell got back on track in the batter's box producing a 1-for-3 day with a double after being held hit-less in yesterday's doubleheader.
After pitching complete games yesterday, both Camryn Snyder and Malaya Johnson came in relief outings for the Gauchos.
Madelyn McNally has now hit safely in 17 straight games.

UP NEXT
UC Santa Barbara will host conference leader Cal State Fullerton next week. The Gauchos and Titans will begin their series on April 20 with a doubleheader set to begin at noon. They will conclude their series on Sunday, April 21 with a single-game at 1 p.m.
