SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara Softball team returns to Campus Diamond looking to get back to their winning ways. The Gauchos will host Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21.
LAST TIME OUT
UC Santa Barbara softball traveled to Long Beach State, who are currently in second place in the Big West. The first two games of the series were close one run losses before the Beach swept the Gauchos with a five run advantage in game three.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE GAUCHOS
Santa Barbara struggled offensively in their last series, producing six runs across three games. After holding the lead, the Gauchos lost game two on a walk-off sac-fly.Â
Camryn Snyder and Malaya Johnson pitched complete games in games one and two respectively. It was Snyder's third complete game in the last four contests. Both pitchers came back to the circle in game three for relief.Â
Madelyn McNally has safely hit in 17 straight games and overall has hit safely in 24 of her last 25 outings. Overall she is hitting .440 on the season.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
Fullerton sits atop the Big West softball standings at 13-2, and posts a 27-14 record overall. The Titans have yet to drop a conference series. They last lost on April 9 to No. 12 UCLA.Â
The Titans have a star in Megan Delgadillo, who leads the Big West in runs scored (40), hits (64), triples (4), at bats (145), stolen bases (35), and is third in batting average (.441). She has twice been named Big West Field Player of the Week.
She is complemented by pitchers Haley Rainey and Staci Chambers who find themselves both in the top five in Big West ERA, OBS, innings pitched, batters struck out, and wins. The pair of aces, along with Delgadillo's offense make CSUF a formidable opponent who the Gauchos will look to knock off from atop the standings.
