SANTA BARBARA, Calif — The UC Santa Barbara Softball team split their first two games of their series against Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday afternoon. The Gauchos run-ruled the 'Runners in game one before CSUB run-ruled the Gauchos in game two.
GAME ONE GAUCHOS 15, ROADRUNNERS 5
The Gauchos scored in six different innings on the way to victory. After going down 1-0 in the top of the first, UC Santa Barbara plated four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
The Gauchos never gave up the lead for the remainder of the game scoring at least one run in all six innings.
Senior Camryn Snyder got the win for UC Santa Barbara. The right-hander went 4.1 innings, giving four earned runs, on four hits, while striking out four.
In the batter's box, the Gauchos were paced by sophomore Bella Fuentes, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a double and three RBI. Sophomore Jazzy Santos furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Senior Madelyn McNally also chipped in for UCSB, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
GAME TWO: GAUCHOS 3, ROADRUNNERS 12
The Gauchos put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. UC Santa Barbara got an RBI single from Elicia Acosta, scoring junior Alexa Sams from third base.
The Gauchos then held the Roadrunners scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Santa Barbara picked up a run on Jazzy Santos' one-out solo home run off of senior Kirsten Martinez, which brought the Gauchos lead to 2-0.
UC Santa Barbara's lead had evaporated once the fifth inning arrived and turned into a 12-2 Cal State Bakersfield advantage. The Gauchos cut that deficit to 12-3 after scoring once on an RBI single off the bat of Ashley Donaldson. The Gauchos were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame
Santos' two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included a double, a home run and an RBI. Junior Elicia Acosta compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Senior Ashley Donaldson also chipped in for the Gauchos, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
GAME NOTES
Every UC Santa Barbara starter reached base safely in the game one win.
Four Gauchos had multiple hits in the ballgame.
UC Santa Barbara went 8-for-18 (.444) with runners in scoring position in
Camryn Snyder recorded her 200th career strikeout in game one.
Ashley Donaldson extended her hitting streak to nine games recording one hit in each game.
Madelyn McNally also extended her hitting streak to 13 games.
With her home run in game two Jazzy Santos is now tied for the team lead in home runs with three.
