Gauchos Track & Field Treks Southeast for First Out of State Meet At Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Tex. – UC Santa Barbara is taking their Men's and Women's Track & Field teams to the 97th annual Texas Relays held in Austin, Tex. starting on Wednesday, March 26 and concluding on Saturday, March 29. The four-day meet will consist of a heptathlon, decathlon, field events, and running events, where the Gauchos look to build on their impressive achievements earlier in the season.

MEET SCHEDULE

The first day of competition will consist of the first half of the Women's Heptathlon and Men's Decathlon. The women will begin their events at 10:30 a.m. CST while the men start shortly after at 11 a.m. CST. 

On the second day, the Women's Heptathlon and Men's Decathlon will conclude, with the latter half of events beginning at 10 a.m. CST. For both the women and the men, the hammer throw, javelin, and pole vault will occur for field events. The 400m hurdles will be the last track event on the track before the evening session of events gets underway.

The evening session on Day 2 will consist of purely distance events, starting at the shortest distance with the 800-meter race and ending with the 10000m. In between, events will include the 1500m, 2000m steeplechase, DMR, 3000m steeplechase, and 5000m.

On the third day of competition, the 4x100m relay will start things off on the track at 9:35 a.m. CST, followed by the women's 100m hurdles, men's 110m hurdles, 100m, 4x400m relay, Sprint Medley Relay, 400m hurdles, and DMR. Field events taking place on Friday will consist of discus at 9 a.m. CST, then long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin, pole vault, and triple jump afterwards.

On the last day of Texas Relays, the Gauchos will finish up business in the field with the discus, high jump, triple jump, and shot put. For running events, relays will dominate the day as the Gauchos will participate in the 4x800m relay, 4x200m relay, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay as well as the women's 100m hurdles, men's 110m hurdles, and 100m dash.

After the Texas Relays have concluded, the Gauchos will make their way back to Santa Barbara before traveling to three separate meets on the same weekend. The Stanford Invite in Palo Alto, Calif. and the Mike Fanelli Distance Meet in Hayward, Calif. will both begin on Thursday, April 3 while the Triton Invite in San Diego, Calif. Will start a day later on April 4. All meets will conclude on Saturday, April 5.
