WALNUT, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara Women's and Men's Track & Field squads sent a small portion of their teams to compete in the Mount SAC Relays on April 18-19 in Walnut, Calif. The two days of competition were filled with individual success for the Gauchos and a good team showing in the events the Gauchos participated in.
FIELD
Throws specialist Andy Buttrell and pole vaulter Eitan Goore were the two Gauchos who showed off their talents in the field at Mount SAC Relays this weekend. Buttrell took on the men's shot put and men's hammer throw, where he recorded a mark of 16.63 in the shot put and a 58.27m distance in the hammer throw. Goore impressed with a leap of 5.15m in the pole vault as well.
TRACK
On the track, freshman decathlete Jeramiah Havens started things off with an appearance in the men's 100m dash, where he timed in at 11.18. The 400m saw Justin Steele do what he does best as he posted a time of 47.73. Miles Paris and Dario Rock both timed in at 14.45 in the men's 110m hurdles, where Paris was given the edge over Rock by seven hundredths of a second. The 400m hurdles served as the last event for the Gauchos aside from the relays, where Finn Andrews ran for a time of 53.23 in the men's race while Nyenuchi Okemgbo came close to a time below one minute, timing in at 1:00.95.
In the relays, the women's 4x100m team was made up of Sophia Pardo, Mia Shepard, Parker Halgren, and Amor Jones, recorded their fastest time of the season and the fourth fastest time in school history, running 46.66. Pardo and Shepard also joined Anna Josephson and Aoife Hernon in the women's 4x400m relay, where they also recorded a season best and the second-fastest time in school history, running 3:39.82. On the men's side, the 4x400m relay team was 0.24 seconds off of a season best and tied the fifth-best time in school history at 3:10.82.

The Gauchos will now turn their attention towards the UC Santa Barbara Invite, which will take place at the Pauley Track on Saturday, April 26 in Santa Barbara, Calif. The meet will be a one-day event.
