Gauchos Defeat the Tigers at Home

SANTA BARBARA, CA - The Blue and Gold were back in action today for the second day in a row, and the Gauchos took on the visiting University of Pacific Tigers. UC Santa Barbara won definitively in both the Men's and Women's dual meets. Final scores read: Men's: UCSB 160, UOP 102, and Women's: UCSB 179, UOP 77.

How It Happened

The Gauchos swept the podium in a few races today. Starting with the Women's 100 Free, Eugenie Laniliss placed first with a time of 50.30. Miranda Stevenson finished second with a time of 51.26, while Alexi Zuckerman secured the sweep with her third-place finish and a time of 51.81. The Men's 200 Back had Blue and Gold in the first three places as well. Taisei Saito brought the Gold home with a time of 1:48.83, and Lucas Hubbard brought home the second-place finish with a time of 1:49.38. Anneesh Veeravatnam clinched the Men's sweep of the podium with his third-place finish (1:50.51). The Men's team completed the sweep in the 200 Fly as well. Billy Picht finished first with a time of 1:49.25, and Aneesh Veeravatnam was right behind him in second with a time of 1:50.51. Bryden Thienlenhaus brought home third place with a time of 1:50.72.

Samantha Banos brought home two individual first place finishes today: 200 Free (1:47.99) and 500 Free (4:50.35). Lelia Symington finished first in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:18.62, Amelie Ogilby was next in second place with a time of 10:27.19.

Next Time Out

The UC Santa Barbara Swim team will be back in the water at Claremont McKenna College on Jan. 24. After next weekend's meet, the UC Santa Barbara invite will be the last meet prior to the Big West Championships in Houston, Texas, in February.
