Gauchos Still Searching for First Win of the Season

IRVINE, Calif. — The UC Santa Barbara softball team is still searching for its first win of the season after falling to both Oregon State and Utah by a score of 4-0.

GAME ONE: BEAVERS 4, GAUCHOS 0
Oregon State took an early lead in the first inning with a double that drove in one run, putting the Beavers ahead 1-0. In the second inning, UCSB's Jaelyn Toledo and Delaina Ma'ae both hit singles, but the Gauchos were unable to capitalize, leaving two runners on base. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Oregon State. UCSB's defense held strong in the third and fourth innings, keeping Oregon State scoreless and maintaining a close contest.

In the fifth inning, Oregon State extended its lead with a two-run home run, increasing the lead to 3-0. The Beavers added another run in the sixth inning on an RBI double, making it 4-0. Despite a solid single by Bella Fuentes and a double by Daryn Siegel in the sixth, the Gauchos could not bring runners home. The game concluded with Oregon State securing a 4-0 victory.

GAME TWO: UTES 4, GAUCHOS 0
Utah capitalized on a four-run fifth inning, securing the win over the Gauchos, who committed five errors in the field.

The game began with UCSB's Jazzy Santos hitting a double to deep center field, marking an early offensive opportunity. However, the team couldn't advance Santos further, leaving two runners on base. Utah mirrored this with a single but was cut short by a double play, keeping the score tied at 0–0 after the first inning.

In the fourth inning, Delaina Ma'ae contributed with a double to right center, but the Gauchos were unable to capitalize further, leaving another runner stranded. Utah managed a similar hit but was kept scoreless, maintaining a scoreless tie entering the fifth inning.

The fifth inning marked a turning point for Utah. They scored four runs, initiated by a two-run home run to deep center field and further aided by two errors from UCSB, resulting in a 4–0 lead for Utah.

In the seventh inning, Ainsley Waddell hit a double to right-center, offering a late scoring chance for the Gauchos, but Santa Barbara was unable to convert, ending the game without scoring. The final score stood at 4–0 in favor of Utah.
