SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The UC Santa Barbara softball team wrapped up their weekend, falling to Iowa State 10-1 on Sunday. The Gauchos had won five straight coming into the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Santa Barbara managed three hits, while Iowa State capitalized on two home runs and four doubles to secure the win. The first inning concluded scoreless for both teams, with UC Santa Barbara unable to capitalize on a fielding error by Iowa State.
Iowa State took the lead in the second inning with two runs. A double put the Cyclones up 1-0, and later took a 2-0 lead on a sac fly. UC Santa Barbara's response was quiet, resulting in no runs with one hit.
In the third inning, Iowa State extended its lead with a four-run push. Another double scored a run, followed by a three-run homer to push the lead to 6-0. UC Santa Barbara managed to put a run on the board when

The Cyclones added another run in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly. UC Santa Barbara was unable to produce any runs in their half of the fourth as the Cyclones now led 7-1.
Iowa State continued its offensive momentum in the fifth inning, scoring three additional runs. Another sacrifice fly and a two-run homer pushed the score to 10-1. UC Santa Barbara did not score in its half of the inning, thus ending the game.

UC Santa Barbara will now prepare for conference play. The Gauchos will host the Tritons of UC San Diego for a three-game set starting on Saturday, March 7 at noon. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available.
