SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The UC Santa Barbara softball team is set to play Cal Poly on the road this weekend. The Gauchos and Mustangs will clash in a three-game set in San Luis Obispo.
ABOUT LAST WEEK
Last weekend, the Gauchos hosted UC San Diego for the first Big West series of the year. The Gauchos completed the three-game sweep with wins of 9-2 and 8-4 on Saturday's doubleheader and 5-2 victory on Sunday.
Several Gauchos delivered notable performances during the series. Sophia Clark earned two wins, including a complete game in the opener, recording three strikeouts. She also picked up a win in a relief situation where she went 1.2 innings. Malaya Jonson threw a complete game in the second game of the doubleheader, recording three strikeouts while earning her fifth win of the season. On Sunday afternoon, Emily Carr sent the Tritons home with a walk-off home run to complete the sweep. The other two Gaucho homers from the weekend came from Delaina Ma'ae, who went deep twice during Saturday's doubleheader.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Cal Poly currently sits at 6-16 overall, 0-3 in Big West Play. The Mustangs are currently on a four-game losing streak and have dropped six of their last seven contests. Myleigh Coopers leads Cal Poly with a .339 batting average, adding four doubles and one of the two team's home runs on the year. Following her are the only two other Mustangs with an average of .279 or higher, Leilani Allen and Mado Bohannon.
In the circle, Bree Brennan and Kaylee Davis have handled the bulk of the workload, combining for 85 of the Mustangs' 136 total innings pitched this season. Brennan holds a 3-5 record with a 4.98 ERA with 12 appearances on the year, while Davis sits at 2-8 with a 5.06 ERA in 12 appearances as well. As a staff, Cal Poly carries a 4.84 ERA with opponents batting .287 against them.
FOLLOW ALONG
The Gauchos play Cal Poly this weekend for their second Big West Conference series. They will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14, with the first beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Gauchos will host Notre Dame this week as well on Wednesday, March 11, at 12 p.m. All games will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available.
