LONG BEACH, Calif. — The UC Santa Barbara softball team fell to Long Beach State 9–1 at the LBSU Softball Complex on Sunday. UC Santa Barbara's lone run came from a home run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first inning, Long Beach State scored three runs. A double to left center, allowed a single run to score. Following the double, two runs scored on a fielding error by UC Santa Barbara. The score was 3–0 after the first inning.
In the second inning,
Emily Carr hit a solo home run to left field, narrowing the gap. However, LBSU responded with a sacrifice fly in their half of the inning, adding another run. The inning concluded with a 4–1 lead for the Beach. The Beach added another run in the fourth inning with an RBI double.
In the fifth inning, Long Beach State's offense surged with four more runs, highlighted by a two-RBI double and effectively putting the mercy rule into place and ending the game. The Gauchos fell 9-1 in the final game of the series.

UC Santa Barbara will return home next weekend to host CSUN. The Gauchos and Matadors will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18 and a single game on Sunday, April 19. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+ with live stats available.
