DAVIS, Calif. - This weekend the Gauchos head to Davis for a Big West series against the UC Davis Aggies. The first two of three games will be a doubleheader on Saturday, April 25, with the first game starting at 1:05pm. The last game of the series will be played Sunday, April 26, at 1:05pm.
CONTINUING THE STREAK
Last week the Gauchos swept CSUN at home. The highlight of these wins was the pitching. In the first game freshman Sophia Clark pitched seven innings, allowing three runs and striking out three. In the second game Malaya Johnson pitched five innings with six strikeouts, allowing two hits in a complete-game shutout. Finally to end the series Ainsley Waddell pitched seven innings and struck out six, only allowing one-hit in a complete-game shutout.
The Gauchos will be looking to continue their winning streak at Davis this weekend. They currently stand second in the Big West Softball standings, with a 16-5 conference record.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
UC Davis enters this weekend 5th in the Big West standings, with a conference record of 13-8. They're fresh off a win from last weekend where they swept UC Riverside at Riverside. The Big West Series before had them playing CSUN where they won two out of the three games.
Last weekend Aggie pitches Caroline Grimes and Ashley Sawai contributed to two of the shutout wins. Grimes pitched 5 innings, striking out six. Sydney Polli also had a big weekend tying a school record with five hits in one game.
The Aggies hit a .282 team average, with three hitting above .300: Sydney Polli, Gia Felice, and Alyssa Dethlefson.
Currently the Aggies have a team average ERA of 4.03. Ashley Sawai and Caroline Grimes largely contribute to this. Sawai has an ERA of 3.43 with 10-4 win-loss record. While Grimes has an ERA of 3.52 and a win-loss record of 12-13.
