DAVIS, Calif. — The UC Santa Barbara softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader against UC Davis on Saturday afternoon. It is just the second Big West series the Gauchos have dropped all season.
GAME ONE: AGGIES 8, GAUCHOS 3
UC Santa Barbara faced UC Davis in a game that saw early scoring from the home team. UCD took an early 3–0 lead in the first inning with a three-run homer. The Gauchos were unable to score in their half of the first.
In the second inning, UCD extended its lead with an RBI single, extending its lead to 4-0.
UC Santa Barbara responded in the third inning when
Dani Rauscher singled, followed by a two-run homer by
Tehya Banks to center field. However, UCD countered with a solo home run in the home half of the inning. The score after three innings was UC Davis 5, UC Santa Barbara 2.
Dee Ma'ae delivered a solo home run to center field in the fourth inning, narrowing the gap.
The sixth inning saw UCD increase its lead with three more runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single.
UC Santa Barbara was unable to add any more runs in the seventh inning, concluding the game with a final score of 8-3 in favor of the Aggies.
GAME TWO: AGGIES 2, GAUCHOS 1
The game remained scoreless through the first two innings, with both teams demonstrating solid defensive efforts. In the third inning, the Aggies took the lead after an Aggie tripled and later scored on a passed ball, putting the home team up 1–0.
UCD extended its lead in the fourth inning. A single followed by successive hits brought in the second run for the Aggies, bringing the score to 2–0 in favor of UC Davis.
The game remained unchanged through the fifth and sixth innings, with both teams unable to capitalize on their opportunities. In the seventh inning,
Bella Fuentes led off the inning with a double to left center, and
Kaylin Garcia, who entered as a pinch runner, advanced to third on a fly out.
Giselle Mejia then singled up the middle, driving in Garcia to shrink the deficit. Despite this late push, UC Santa Barbara couldn't overcome the Aggies' lead and fell 2-1 in the second game of the doubleheader.
