UCSB Wins Gaucho Invite, Four Gauchos Place Top 15

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — UC Santa Barbara secured a narrow victory at the UCSB Gaucho Invite, finishing with a team score of 855 (-9). Ryan Gay led the team effort with a tie for second place individually, carding a 211 (-5) over the three rounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Santa Barbara emerged victorious at the UCSB Gaucho Invite, finishing first with a total score of 855 after rounds of 280, 289, and 286. Gay led the charge, tying for second place individually with a final score of 211, featuring rounds of 70, 73, and a standout 68 in the final round. Nick Waldock also made a significant impact, tying for sixth place with a total of 213, highlighted by an opening round of 69 and a strong finish of 70 in the third round.
 
Dylan Ma contributed to the team's success by securing ninth place with a score of 215, starting with a 70 and maintaining under-par performances in the first two rounds. Jack Watters finished tied for 11th with a score of 217, maintaining consistency with back-to-back rounds of 71 to start. Zach Schwab, despite a challenging start, improved in the final round to finish with a total of 233. Andrew Reyes and Jackson Turner, competing as individuals, finished with scores of 228 and 230, respectively.
 
NOTABLES
This was the Gauchos' first tournament win under Head Coach Chris Massoletti. Additionally, it was Santa Barbara's first tournament win since the 2018-19 season.
The 855 (-9) team score was the second-best three-round team score total in Gaucho Invitational history.
Ryan Gay's 211 (-5) was the sixth-best three-round score at the Gaucho Invitational.
Four Gauchos finished in the top 15 of the event.
 
UP NEXT
UC Santa Barbara will have a month to prepare for The Big West Championships in La Quinta, California. The championships will take place from May 3 through May 5.
