Gianni Bloom

Following a successful career as a student-athlete on the UC Santa Barbara Baseball team, Gianni Bloom joined the Gauchos’ coaching staff ahead of the 2023 season as the Director of Player Development, Camps & Clinics.

In Bloom’s first season on the coaching staff, the Gauchos produced a Freshman All-American, The Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year, and seven All-Big West honorees. Bloom also coordinates UC Santa Barbara’s Baseball Buddies program, creating memorable experiences at the ballpark for local little leaguers by giving them a chance to meet student-athletes and run out onto the field alongside them before home games.

As a student-athlete, Bloom played three seasons for the Gauchos after transferring from Sierra College, posting a .222 career batting average over five total collegiate seasons. Bloom excelled defensively at his catcher position, allowing only one passed ball in his final two seasons at UC Santa Barbara, with none in his senior year. Over his five-year career between Sierra and UC Santa Barbara, he threw out 26 potential base-stealers and was never called for catcher’s interference. In his first year at Sierra, he helped the Wolverines win the 2018 Big 8 Conference Championship and reach the Nor Cal Finals.

The Richmond, California native graduated from UC Santa Barbara with his bachelor’s degree in communication in 2022, earning Big West Academic All-Conference honors that year as well.
