Kyle Hunt

Kyle Hunt joined the UC Santa Barbara Baseball coaching staff in the fall of 2024, moving south after two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of San Francisco. Hunt coaches third base for the Gauchos and works closely with Santa Barbara’s infielders.

At the end of his first season in Santa Barbara, two of Hunt's infield pupils earned All-Big West Honors. Middle infielder Jonathan Mendez took a massive step forward at the plate en route to second team honors, hitting 11 home runs and 17 doubles, leading the team in both slugging percentage and total bases. Third baseman Xavier Esquer earned honorable mention in his first season in Santa Barbara, teaming an impressive defensive season with eight home runs and 15 doubles.

Among the players he coached in his last stop with the Dons was infielder Mario DeMera, who finished the 2023 season as one of the top hitters in the West Coast Conference, ranking sixth in the conference in batting average and seventh in on-base percentage while leading the team with 67 hits and 15 doubles. Prior to his time at USF, Hunt coached at his alma mater, Nevada, for three seasons. In 2021, he helped the Wolf Pack win the Mountain West regular season championship and capture a bid to the NCAA Tournament, Nevada’s first since 2000.

Hunt also won a Mountain West regular season title as a student-athlete at Nevada, tallying 27 RBIs and a career-best .971 fielding percentage on the infield during the Wolf Pack’s 2015 season. He began his coaching career at Nevada as well, serving as an undergraduate assistant in 2016 before being elevated to Director of Player Development and On-Campus Recruiting in 2017. In 2018, he moved to Irvine Valley College for his first of two seasons as an assistant coach working with the Lasers’ infielders.

A Southern California native, from Mission Viejo, Hunt graduated from Nevada in 2016 with a degree in Community Health Science.
