Spencer Erdman was officially made a full-time Assistant Coach in October of 2023, following his third season with UC Santa Barbara. Erdman joined the Gauchos prior to the 2021 season as the team’s Volunteer Assistant Coach. He works primarily with UC Santa Barbara's offense.
Erdman came to Santa Barbara after spending a season as the Volunteer Assistant Coach for San Jose State where he also focused on working with the infielders and the offense. During his one season there, the program saw 23 Mountain West All-Academic selections.
Prior to helping the Spartans, Erdman spent two years just down the road as the Infield and Hitting Coach for Santa Barbara City College, where he is also an alum and former player. As a coach he helped the Vaqueros lead the league in batting average and win a Western State Conference championship.
Erdman joined the Vaqueros as a student and player in 2014 and served as the team’s second baseman for two seasons. In 2015 he collected a gold glove, a Western State All-Conference selection, a Western State Conference Championship, and a 5th place outing in the state playoffs.
After earning a degree from SBCC, Erdman took his talents to LMU where he continued his winning ways. The Lions won the WCC Championship during his senior year, posting a 38-18 overall record and a 20-7 conference record in 2017. Erdman ranked third on the team in both batting average (.338) and slugging (.468), had a team-best 12 doubles, and posted a 21-game hit streak.
The San Jose, Calif. native graduated from LMU with a degree in economics and earned his Master's of Science degree in exercise science while coaching at SBCC.
