2016: As a redshirt sophomore, earned a spot in UCSB's rotation as the Sunday starter ... In 16 starts, went 6-5 with a 3.91 ERA ... Over 89 2/3 innings, struck out 63 against 38 walks ... Didn't appear in the College World Series, but made one postseason start going 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA ... Started the final game of the Nashville Regional, tossing 5+ innings against Xavier with three runs against on five hits, six walks, and two strikeouts ... Bounced back from a two-run first to hold Xavier to just one run over his final four-plus innings ... Had a 2.98 ERA in conference play, which was lowest on the rotation until the final weekend of the regular season ... Had an ERA under 3.00 in both February (2.03) and May (2.91) ... Team was 9-6-1 in his starts ... Sometimes got in trouble with his control, as his 3.81 BB/9 was highest among the team's starters ... Didn't allow a triple all year ... 2015: Made eight appearances as a redshirt freshman, all out of the bullpen ... Finished the year with a 2-1 record, a 2.70 ERA, and nine strikeouts in 10 innings pitched ... Didn't appear after Apr. 1 ... By far his best outing of the year was on Mar. 8 against Sacramento State, when he fired 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief with four punchouts en route to his first career victory ... Didn't allow a run in six of his eight outings ... Struck out three in just 1 1/3 innings pitched against Fresno State on Apr. 1 ... Spent his summer at the Urban Youth Academy in Los Angeles, the same facility Dillon Tate, No. 4 overall selection of the 2015 MLB Draft, trained at before the 2014 season.
