Biography

Previous College (Carnegie Mellon) 
Blossoming during his undergrad time at Carnegie Mellon, Degen went from a virtually unknown high school harrier to a national class distance runner while competing in the Cardinal and White. He is the CM school record holder in the indoor 3,000m and in the outdoor 10,000m. He was the 2014 UAA Cross Country Champion and parlayed that momentum right into the NCAA DIII Indoor Championships where he finished 10th in the 3,000m with a school record setting time of 8:28.49. During the outdoor season, he qualified for nationals in the 10,000m, finishing 14th overall. He was awarded as a 2015 CoSIDA Academic All-American for his work in the classroom and on the track. 

Prep
Attended Madison West HS in Wisconsin. Had a prep best of 4:55 in the 1,600m and 17:10 in the 5,000m. Also competed for three years in varsity tennis. 

Personal
Parents are Tom and Meredith...Has three siblings, Thekla, Eleanor and Henry...A Ph.D. candidate in the Chemical Engineering program...Aspires to direct a research lab developing cancer therapeutics...Favorite movie is Without Limits...Favorite band is Wilco...Personal heroes are his Parents...One thing his teammates might not know about him is that "I am going to miss the cold winters!"
