Biography
Franklin delivered a sixth place Big West performance in the hammer to cap a solid freshman campaign. He joins a short list of true freshman who have broke into the BW scoring column in the event. Look for him to challenge an NCAA First Round mark and attack the UCSB record book in 2016.
2014-2015
Franklin opened his freshman season with a throw of 179 in the hammer at the Stanford Invite, placing sixth overall. He placed fifth at the Big West Challenge Cup with a throw of 174'5 in the hammer. He recorded a hammer mark of 174'2 at the Triton Invitational. At the Cal Poly Dual he had a season's best mark in the shot put of 48'10.25. He placed third in the dual in the hammer with a mark of 170'11. Joined a short list of true freshman to score in the Big West in the hammer, placing sixth with a mark of 177'9.
Prep
Franklin joins the Gauchos as one of the top throws prospects in the state. He qualified for the CIF State Championships in the discus as a junior and as a senior but his most impressive marks came in an event the state of California doesn't sponsor- the hammer. Franklin is 11th in the US on the high school hammer list with a personal best throw of 210'. He has prep bests of 57'7 in the shot put and 175'8 in the discus. He placed 11th in the USATF Junior National Championships in the hammer with a throw of 199'10 using the 6k implement. He also threw 70'5.75 in the weight throw and went on to finish fifth at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in the event.
