In just his second season throwing the javelin, Kuskey qualified for the NCAA First Round in the event. He placed third at the Big West Championships in the javelin with a throw of 202'8. Kuskey had a season's best throw of 205'11, a mark he set at the Cal Poly Dual. He aims to return to the NCAA post-season and crack the UCSB All-Time list in the event.
2014-2015
Kuskey opened his sophomore campaign with a 186'1 effort in the javelin at the Stanford Invite. He hit a throw of 175'3 at the Bryan Clay Invite before unleashing a lifetime best throw of 205'11 at the Cal Poly Dual. At the Big West Championships he recorded a mark of 202'8, claiming the conference Bronze medal.
2013-2014
In his first year competing in the sport, Matthew Kuskey found his way into the Big West final in the javelin where he placed sixth overall and made a strong impression that he had finally found his niche. Kuskey opened the season with a throw of 168'4 in the javelin to take third at the Gaucho Round-Up. He placed third in the javelin at the UCR Spring Break Invitational with a throw of 176'11. He threw 161'8 at the Cal-Nevada Championships and followed that with a 162'3 performance at the Cal Poly Dual Meet. His practices indicated he was ready for a break through and he delivered it in the second round of the Big West Championships with a throw of 183'1, taking sixth.
Prep
Kuskey attended Santa Ynez Valley Union High School where he was a three sport athlete. Known for his long drives on the golf course and tenacious play at the linebacker position.
