Biography
2016-2017
Competed nine times for his second season at UCSB. Equalled his season's best from last year at the Ben Brown Invitational in 15' 6 1/4" to take third overall. Bested that a week later at 39th Annual Aztec Invitational, jumping 15' 7 1/4". Leaped to a new personal best at the Cal Poly Dual Meet, recording a height of 15' 9 3/4" to take second. Finished the season with the same height at the Big West Conference Championships, scoring for the first time by taking sixth place.
2015-2016
Competed in six meets for his first year as a Gaucho. Jumped a season's best of 15' 6 1/4" to take third at the Cal Poly Dual Meet.
Prep
Nichols was a two-time CIF State qualifier in the pole vault for the Branham HS Bruins. As a junior he placed eighth in the State Finals, leaping over 15'9 in qualifying. As a senior, Nichols captured his second straight CCS Trials title in the PV and went on to take the win at the CCS Finals, jumping over 15'7 and earning a repeat bid to the state meet. Prep coaches were Jim Lawrence, Bob Slover and Tobias McCleod.

Parents are Renee Nichols & Doug Nichols...Has one sibling, Samuel...UCSB major is currently Undeclared...Favorite band is Nirvana.
