Biography

After making the switch from the throws to the decathlon, Tombol proved he could handle the rigors of the combined events, placing sixth at the Big West Championships. In just his first season training for the decathlon, Tombol scored 6411 and ranks #8 All-Time in school history with the new scoring tables. Look for him to develop in the jumps and challenge his PR score each time he takes the track. 

2014-2015
Tombol asked to make the move from the throws to the combined events for his sophomore campaign. It was a successful one. He opened his multi-event career at the Jim Klein meet hosted by Westmont. There he scored 6327 in his first 10 event test. He used a 179'0 javelin and 145'4 discus throws to propel his score. In between his next multi-event, Tombol placed seventh at the Big West Challenge in the discus, throwing a season best mark of 151'5. He scored 6411 at the Mt. Sac Relays in the decathlon, upping his best by 84 pts. Tombol used field event marks of 21'1.25 in the long jump, 43'9.25 in the shot put, 143'7 in the discus, 13'3.25 in the pole vault and 177'4 in the javelin to boost his Mt. Sac score. He then helped the Gauchos with a discus effort of 151'1 at the Cal Poly Dual, taking an important scoring position for UCSB. At the Big West Championship, Tombol placed sixth in the decathlon with a score of 6344, using a new LJ PR of 21'1.5 to help his score. He came back the next week and placed 12th in the javelin with a throw of 180'7 and 13th in the discus with a throw of 149'7. 
 

2013-2014 Track
Tombol competed in the javelin and discus throws for the Gauchos, making an appearance in five competitions as a freshman. Set a collegiate best in the discus at the Big West Challenge, throwing 154'3. Made the final at the Cal-Nevada Championships in the javelin in his first meet contestign the event, throwing 173'4. Threw 150'4 in the discus at the Cal Poly Dual Meet, taking the second scoring position for the Gauchos. Led the Gauchos at the Cal Poly Dual in the javelin, taking second with a throw of 174'2. Had a breakout performance at the Big West Championships in the javelin, launching a throw of 187'7 on his fourth attempt to take fifth. Came back in the discus and threw 151'10 to place 10th overall at the Big West meet. 

Prep
Attended Servite High School. Captured the CIF-Division 3 title in the discus as a senior. He would go onto to finish 8th at the CIF State Finals in the discus. Twice won the Trinity League title in the discus. Named to All-Orange County Track and Field Team. Holds the Servite High School record in the discus at 178'4. Also played baseball and football for the Friars. High school coach was Thomas Caballero. 

Personal
Mother is Debbie Tombol...Majoring in Biology...Enjoys training, surfing, playing football and basketball...Favorite band is Social Distortion...Most memorable athletic achievement is high school football team upsetting Rancho Cucamonga during senior year.
