Alysia Hendricks

Alysia Hendricks joined the UCSB Softball staff as part-time assistant coach in September 2014 and was promoted to full-time first assistant coach in June 2017. Hendricks enters her 16th season overall as a Gaucho, coaching for the eight seasons following her junior and senior years as the Gauchos’ starting shortstop and third baseman prior to transitioning to the non-profit sector with the Tiger Woods Foundation.

"Alysia is a Gaucho alum and I'm excited to have her on the staff full-time with the experience she has," said head coach Brie Galicinao. "Her collegiate background in both softball and basketball and her education in health and wellness have been advantages for our athletes in their understanding of general athletic movement, especially footwork and speed, and ability to learn defensive strategy and positioning." Hendricks’s primary responsibilities are recruiting and the Gaucho defense. In the shortened 2020 season, the Gauchos finished tied for the best fielding percentage (.970) in the Big West.

During her first stint in coaching at UCSB, Hendricks’s primary responsibilities were recruiting and defense for five years and offense for three years. She coached All-American Jami Trinidad and All-Region players Tonya
Dias and Chantal Pershing. Originally from Gold Hill, Oregon, Hendricks was recruited for basketball and softball by Big-12 universities prior to moving to California to play basketball and softball at Taft College. After athletics were eliminated from Taft, Hendricks continued to play basketball and softball at Merced College where she served as captain for both teams and held the women’s basketball assists record for over 20 years until it was finally broken in 2019.

Hendricks transferred to UCSB where she earned Team Rookie of the Year in her first season and majored in Sociology and minored in Athletic Coaching at UCSB. She continued her education at University of San
Francisco where she earned a Master’s in Sport Management. A retired marathoner, Hendricks is also a certified yoga teacher with Yoga Medicine as well as Certified Personal Trainer and Performance Enhancement Specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Hendricks resides in Goleta, Calif. and enjoys living less than a mile from the beach.
