Appeared in 27 games with 12 starts as a senior… tossed 71.2 innings on the year with a 5.27 ERA… Finished with a 4-8 record, and picked up a save… Allowed 96 hits and struck out 48 batters… Pitched two complete games and allowed 54 earned runs… Had a great outing against Santa Clara to open the season on Feb. 9 with a complete game in a win in which she only allowed a single earned run, and struck out seven… Went the distance against Dayton, earning a complete game shutout after striking out six, walking just one, and allowing only three hits.
2017
Made 17 appearances with five starts as a junior…Finished with a 5-2 record and a 4.32 ERA…Tossed 56.2 innings, striking out 19 while walking 17 and recording two complete games…Recorded the first seven inning shutout of her career with a complete game, four-hitter, against Big West Champions Cal State Fullerton in a 2-0 UCSB win (May 13)…Also tossed a complete game while allowing just one run on eight hits in a 3-1 win over UC Davis (May 6)…Recorded a season-high three strikeouts on three separate occasions.
2016
Made 15 appearances with seven starts as a sophomore…Finished the year with a 5-2 record…Tossed 44.2 innings and allowed 61 hits, 32 runs, 30 earned runs, six home runs, and 19 walks…Recorded 22 strikeouts, averaging 3.45 per game...Had an ERA of 4.70…Had a strong outing against Binghamton when she logged six innings of work and gave up only four hits and no runs…She fanned a season-high four batters in three different games.
2015
During her freshman year, Mayer appeared in 35 games and started 12… With 90.2 innings per game she recorded 69 punch outs… Overall, she averaged 1.62 strikeouts per game… Mayer ended the season with a 6.33 ERA.
HIGH SCHOOL
Played for four years under coach Jason Kaneko at Berkeley High School where she was a pitcher/utility player… As a senior, she batted .438 and had a .526 on-base percentage, while in the circle she held a 1.74 era and kept her opponents to a .160 collective batting average… That same season, she was named the West Alameda County Conference MVP, as she led her team to the league and to the CIF North Coast Section playoffs… One of her best performances as a senior came against Castro Valley when she led her team to a 2-1 win, as she held the Trojans to just one run and three hits in a complete game effort… She was named First Team All-WACC 12 in every season since her sophomore year… In her freshman and sophomore campaigns, Mayer helped the Yellow Jackets reach Alameda Contra Costa Athletic League and NCS postseason play… A strong student, she was named an AP Scholar and a four-time CIF Scholar Athlete at Berkeley High.
PERSONAL
Lena Luno Mayer was born on May 16, 1996 in Berkeley, Calif. to parents Karen and David… She has an older sister named Izzy… Her most memorable athletic achievements are competing in the Premier Girls Fastpitch Nationals and the Amateur Softball Association Nationals, and the day she signed to play for UCSB… A San Francisco sports fan, she roots for the 49ers and the Giants… Her favorite movies are: Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride and A League of Their Own... She enjoys watching Orange is the New Black, Ally McBeal, The Office, and Bachelor in Paradise… Her favorite music artists are YG, Darius Rucker, J-Boog, and Too $hort… In her free time, she likes to sing, dance, and eat… Mayer was also recruited by South Carolina and North Carolina… Plans on majoring in communication, as she has an interest in pursing a broadcast career.
