2018
Played 45 games, primarily as catcher, in her senior season… Threw out seven runners attempting to steal… Produced an outstanding .995 fielding percentage from behind home plate with only one error on the season… Tallied 24 hits with three doubles, a homerun, and 20 RBI… Went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double in a 8-5 win against Niagara on Mar. 3.

2017
Played in 52 games as the Gauchos’ primary catcher as a junior…Went 24-for-158 at the plate for a .188 batting average…Finished with one homerun, 12 RBIs, three doubles and four runs scored…Her homerun helped UCSB rally from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Hawai’i 3-2 on Apr. 29…Second on the team with six sacrafices…Behind the dish, finished with a .989 fielding percentage with just two errors in 186 total chances (163 putouts, 21 assists)…Threw out nine woule-be-base-stealers in 52 attempts for a percentage of .148.

2016
Played in 19 games in her sophomore season…Finished with a .185 batting average with five hits and a run through 27 at bats…Clubbed one home run and drew four walks…Finished with a .313 on-base percentage and a .296 slugging percentage…Started nine straight games at catcher while Samantha Stark missed time with an injury.

2015
During her freshman year, Samantha Lujan appeared in two games and made one at bat. 

HIGH SCHOOL
Played for four years under coach Tony Aguirre at Norwalk High School where she was a catcher… As a senior, she batted over .400 and was named Second Team All-Suburban League, as she led her team to its first league title in school history… That season, the Lancers also played in the wildcard round of the CIF Playoffs… In her junior year, Lujan she had a .373 batting average with 27 RBI and 15 extra base hits, while her team made it to the first round of the CIF postseason… In her sophomore and freshman years, Lujan hit for .373 and .397, respectively, while helping her team reach the wild card round of the CIF playoffs both seasons...  Lujan also competed in volleyball, as she was named her team’s Player of the Year in her 2011 freshman year… As talented in the classroom as she is on the field, Lujan four-year scholar athlete in both volleyball and softball… She graduated high school with highest honors and was named a 2014 Distinguished Scholar by the National Honors Society… In 2014, she earned the President’s Education Award for outstanding academic excellence and also received a $1,000 scholarship from the Norwalk LA Mirada Parent Teacher Association… She was earned a bronze medal from the Southeast Regional Occupation Program as an emergency first responder.

PERSONAL
Samantha Lujan was born on March 1, 1996 in Anaheim, Calif. to parents Susan and Jose… She has an older sister named Priscilla and a younger brother named Jayden… Her favorite sports teams are the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Braves, while her favorite athlete is Braves pitcher Craig Kimbrel for all he has overcome… Her most memorable athletic achievement was practicing with Jen Schroeder who Lujan says is “inspirational and motivational”… One of her most impressive athletic achievements was hitting two grand slams in one day while playing for her club team, the Lakewood Firecrackers, in 2012… Her favorite movie is The Vow… She enjoys watching Law & Order: SVU… Her favorite novels are If I Stay, The Fault in Our Stars, Ash, Diary of a Teenage Girl, and Like the Red Panda… She enjoys listening to One Republic… In her free time, she works in youth softball clinics for Jen Schroeder… She was also recruited Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge… For two years, she worked at Jen Schroeder’s softball clinics in Anaheim where she has the opportunity to work side-by-side with the country’s best players.
