Made 32 appearances with 13 starts as a junior… Tossed 83.0 innings and finished the season with a 6-11 record… Struck out 43 batters while walking only 19… Pitched four complete games from the circle… Allowed 64 earned runs in 129 hits for a 5.40 ERA… Had a stellar performance in a complete game shutout in a 8-0 win CSU Bakersfield, allowing only six hits and fanning three on Mar. 25… Came right back the next day in another complete game with no earned runs, four strikeouts, and only five hits in a 2-1 win against Seattle.

Second Team All-Big West
Served as the ace on the Gauchos staff as a sophomore…Made 31 starts and 44 appearances while recording a 17-14 record…Had a 2.69 ERA…Tossed 205.2 innings and struck out 82 while walking 63…Totaled 16 complete games and four shutouts…Earned Second Team All-Big West accolades after notching a 1.92 ERA in 14 appearances and 76.2 innings pitched during conference play…Ranked fourth in the league with eight complete games against the Big West…Fanned a career-high 10 batters in a complete game, 5-1 victory over Nevada (Mar. 4) and allowed only four hits…Recorded a complete game shutout while allowing just four hits in a 4-0 win over Sacramento State (Mar. 28)…Also recorded complete game victories against Nebraska-Omaha (Mar. 5), Sacred Heart (Mar. 11), Santa Clara (Mar. 25), Cal Poly (Apr. 2), Loyola Marymount (Apr. 3), UC Riverside (Apr. 8), CSUN (Apr. 14) and Fresno State (Apr. 19).
2016
Big West All-Freshman Team
Made 35 appearances with 18 starts as a freshman, which both rank second among UCSB pitchers…She became the first freshman Gaucho pitcher to be named to the conference’s all-freshman team (the league introduced the all-freshman team in 2014)…Finished the year with an 8-12 record with six complete games and one save…Tossed 113.1 innings overall…Allowed 125 hits, 76 runs, 57 earned runs, 40 walks, and 18 home runs…Recorded 62 strikeouts, averaging 3.83 per game…Had a 3.52 ERA…Her best performance of the year was her no-hitter against Charleston Southern (3/4/16) when she threw five innings and struck out seven batters…Only three Buccaneers reached base that day with a pair of errors and a hit by pitch.
HIGH SCHOOL
Played first base at Dos Pueblos HS under coach Jon Uyesaka…She led her team to three Channel League Championships (2012, 2014, 2015), as well as to four straight appearances in the CIF postseason…She earned all-league honors in all four years…She excelled in the classroom and earned the National Scholar Athlete Award in 2015 and was also named a Lifetime National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation member.

Veronika Kaila Gulvin was born on July 14, 1997 in Goleta, Calif. to parents Michelle and Bob…She has an older brother named Robert…Her favorite sports moment was seeing the BMX Worlds Main Event…Enjoys watching One Tree Hill and Impractical Jokers…In her free time, she likes to stand-up paddleboard and play ping pong… Has not decided on a major yet.
