After joining the Gauchos as an assistant coach for the 2020-21 season, Jaclyn Rosen was promoted to head coach before 2021-22. Rosen arrived in Santa Barbara with over a decade of experience in college coaching, spending time at University of San Diego, Bowling Green State University, University of Cincinnati, San Jose State University, and City College of San Francisco. At USD, Rosen coached swimmers who had 16 NIC qualifiers, broke nine school records, and had over 95 lifetime best times. She has coached all groups, but most recently focused on mid-distance and distance groups.
The 2025-26 season marked another strong chapter for Rosen and the Gauchos as UC Santa Barbara made an immediate impact in its return to The Big West Championships. Coming off a championship year the Gauchos posted a third place womenâs finish and a fifth place menâs finish. The Blue and Gold earned 20 medals (three gold, six silver and 11 bronze). Under Rosenâs guidance, Samantha Banos earned an automatic qualifying spot to the NCAA Championships in the 200 butterfly.
The 2024-25 marked a transition for UC Santa Barbara as they moved back into The Big West moving on from the MPSF. Both the men and women claimed the Big West Championships, highlighted by 23 medals (including eight golds) on the menâs side and 15 medals (including six golds) from the women. Rose earned Big West Coach of the Year honors, and the accomplishments of the season culminated in UCSB being named the 2025 UCSB Athletics Team of the Year.
In 2023-24 season, UC Santa Barbara delivered a standout performance at the MPSF Championships, with the men finishing second and capturing 19 total medals while the women secured a strong fourth-place finish with seven medals. The program also celebrated a major milestone with three athletes qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Rosen built on the success and in the 2022-23 season led the Gauchos to a second place finish, earning 22 total medals including 12 golds at the MPSF Championships on the men's side and a fourth place finish with nine medals on the women's. Following the Championships she named MPSF Coach of the Year. 27 athletes were named All-MPSF with both teams collecting Scholar All-American honors by The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America.Â
In her first season at the helm of both programs Rosen led the Gauchos to second place (men) and fourth place (women) finishes at the MPSF Championships. She coached 28 student-athletes to All-MPSF awards and both teams were named CSCAA Schalar All-American Team.
In a pandemic-shortened first season at UC Santa Barbara, Rosen helped lead the Gauchos to five MPSF individual championships as well as 19 MPSF first-team and 34 MPSF second-team selections.Â
As a student-athlete, Rosen swam at University of Hawaii where she was a team captain her final two years. She went on to get her Masters of Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Studies and Sport Psychology at San Jose State.
