Joe Plume

Joe Plume is in his second year as an assistant coach in the UCSB swimming programs.

Plume was a four-year letterwinner on the Gaucho men's swimming team and a three-year letterwinner in men's water polo.

As a swimmer, Plume swam freestyle and backstroke. At the 2009 Big West Championships he was part of an 800 free relay foursome that finished second and set a UCSB record with a time of 6:31.07. During his career, he also finished as high as fouirth in the 200 free, fourth in the 500 free and eighth in the 100 individual medley.

Plume played three seasons for Wolf Wigo's Gaucho water polo team. He played in 53 matches over his final two seasons, icluding all 29 in 2009 when he scored five goals and added eight assists.

A native of Hillsborough, Calif., Plume graduated from UCSB with a degree in global studies. He is also a graduate of Burlingame High School where he was a four-time all-league swimmer, also earning All-American honors.
