Biography
2014-2015
O'Brine competed in 12 meets during her debut season wearing the Gaucho blue. She opened the year with a third place discus showing at the Round-Up, throwing a mark of 137'6. She placed second at the All-UC in the discus, throwing 141'11. O'Brine threw 159'11 to place fifth in the hammer at the Big West Double Dual. Next she hit a mark of 150'3 in the discus to place eighth at the UCR Spring Track Classic. Took a valuable fifth place scoring finish for the Gauchos at the Big West Challenge Cup in the hammer, throwing 163'7, the #10 All-Time mark in UCSB history. At the Challenge Cup she also placed fourth in the discus. At the Cal Poly Dual she placed second in the hammer and third in the discus, throwing marks of 160'0 and 139'7 respectively.
Prep
Competing for the Troubadours of St. Francis High School, O'Brine won 24 competitions in the discus throughout her prep career. Three times she qualified for the CIF State Championships in the event- twice advancing to the state final. Her prep best in the disc came at the Arcadia Invitational in 2014 at 147'1. Her discus PR ranked 5th in the state of California her senior year. Also as a senior, O'Brine placed second at the Stanford Invitational in the discus. High school coach was David Badovinac.
Personal
Parents are Diane and David...Has three siblings, Chis, Cody and Tommy...Double major in Political Science and Philosophy...Aspires to attend law school and become a lawyer...Personal Heroes are her parents and 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist in the discus, Stephanie Brown-Trafton...Enjoys the high level of competition in collegiate track and field and the encouragement of her teammates...Holds her middle school record in the shot put.
